. . Originally, I was trying to keep the ride to eight days, mainly to make it more attractive to those trying to fit it into the work-week. But that does not seem to be a big issue with the current group. I want to add a day ending at Island Park where there are lots of alternative for lodging and then ride to Diggs where we again have lots of lodging alternatives. That would give us three days of about 45 miles of pedaling instead of two days with with the 65 and 71.
. . If the added day is a problem, we can eliminate the extra-day in West Yellowstone.
Please comment ASAP to we can confirm the route and
make lodging reservations outside of the parks.
Tom,
ReplyDeleteThis change and adding a day is fine for me.
Fine with me. Two 45 are much preferable to one 75 mile day.
ReplyDeleteThere's a rail trail on the west side of the Tetons that was mentioned in ACA's latest circular email. Not sure how much is currently completed but it may help and I think this is it, or part of it: http://parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/parks/ashton-tetonia-trail
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally last night as I was refreshing my memory of the itinerary I noticed a trail on satellite view of the Jenny Lake loop. It appeared to be paved and is likely little used by pedestrians, the bane of trails for cyclists. A little digging brought this up.http://www.nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/loader.cfm?csModule=security/getfile&PageID=525284
ReplyDeleteWe may not have to deal with traffic as much as we had feared.
I have added a POST about the Ashton to Tetonia Trail. It has a gravel surface and is not suitable for road bikes.
ReplyDeleteTrails around Jenny Lake are off-limits to bicyclists. I have added a post with Grand Teton Park rule for bicyclists.
ReplyDeleteI "jumped the gun" on Ashton. Although KAYAK listed nothing, I was able to find reasonable lodging via other searching. Check out what I posted. That allows us to "stay on plan." I wanted to break up the ride from two to three days from West Yellowstone to Jackson, but I could not make it work. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI'll see what I can do between Ashton and Jackson, which has the hardest/longest ride of the tour.
The Rankin in Ashton looks fine to me.
